OUR LADY ACADEMY MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS

Wednesday, December 13, 2023

Good Morning OLA!    Today is Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

Please stand for our morning prayer as we remember that we are in the presence of God.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Our Father, Who art in heaven Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Please remain standing for the Pledge:

I pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Jesse Tree

Today we place a fire on the Jesse Tree to represent the prophet Elijah.  He prayed, "Yahweh, you are the God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known today that you are the God in Israel and that I am your servant."  God worked many miracles through Elijah, including on Mt. Carmel during the famine.  The king at the time worshipped the false god, Baal.  Elijah challenged him and two altars were built, one for Yahweh and one for Baal.  The prophets were to call down fire for the sacrifice to see which god was real.  The prophets of Baal called down fire and nothing happened.  Elijah covered his sacrifice with water to make it even harder to catch fire.  Elijah prayed and God sent fire from the sky consuming the sacrifice and even the stones of the altar.  Then Elijah prayed for rain.  God sent the rain to end the famine.  Many around us worship false gods.  We pray to always remain faithful to the one, true God.

Jonah was also a prophet.  God sent him to Nineveh to prophesy, but Jonah did not want to go.  So he went on a ship thinking he could hide from God.  A great storm came and the sailors knew that it was because of Jonah, so they threw him overboard.  Jonah was swallowed by a bug fish and remained there for three days.  Jonah prayed and God spit him out of the belly of the whale.  Jonah said, "out of the bell of shoel I cried, and you heard my voice."  This time, Jonah went to Nineveh and preached and warned them that they had only 40 days to repent.  The people of Nineveh repented and fasted and prayed, and God saw their hearts of conversion and the city was spared destruction.  May we go where God asks.  May we have hearts of conversion.
